What First Aid is required?

You must have a relevant paediatric First Aid course suitable to the care of babies and children including training in the following areas:

  • dealing with emergencies
  • resuscitation
  • shock, choking and anaphylactic shock.

You must have completed this First Aid certificate within the 3 years prior to the date of application.

  • Look on the Internet

The Red Cross website provides a search engine to find paediatric first aid courses (First Aid for Childcarers) in your local area. This can be found at www.redcrossfirstaidtraining.co.uk. The course is 12 hours delivered over two days. You can also call 0870 1709110 to find out about local courses. Payment has to be made in advance of the course and course prices vary between centres. Concessions are available.

The St John´s Ambulance website provides a search engine to find paediatric first aid courses (Early Years First Aid) in your local area. This can be found at www.sja.org.uk/training. The course is 12 hours delivered over two days. You can also call 020 7258 3456 to find out about local courses. Payment has to be made at the time of booking before the course begins and course prices vary between centres.

Emergency First Response offers a 12 hour Care for Children course which meets the needs of childcare workers. The Emergency First Response website provides a search engine enabling you to find instructors who teach these courses in your area. Contact an instructor to register for a course. Log on to the Course finder at: www.emergencyfirstresponse.com/pros/calendar showschedule default.apsx You may also contact the head office with enquiries on 0117 300 7234. Prices vary and Emergency First Response instructors will quote the cost of the course at the time of the enquiry. Certificates are issued on completion.

ABC Medical Services (Reading) Ltd specialise in Childcare First Aid Training. They provide a 12hr Paediatric First Aid course for Childcare Professionals. This course awards a nationally recognised qualification in Paediatric First Aid valid for 3 years. The course is run regularly at their Medical Training Centre based at Reading University , the course can also be run at your location for group bookings. ABC Medical Services are a recognised training provider of The Health and Safety Executive (Reg No. 03/06), The National Childminding Association, The Pre School Learning Alliance and OFSTED.

Medic First Aid Ltd provides a 12 Hour Paediatric First Aid Course (First Aid in Early Years Settings) delivered over two days. This course is available at many centres throughout the UK. Information on the content and structure of this course can be found at www.medicfirstaid.org. Candidates will recieve a nationally recognised certificate on succesful completion of the course. @Home Childcare provides a 12-hour First Aid for Childcare Practitioners course, which is delivered by ABC First Aid Training. The course is based in the Nottinghamshire area. Candidates will receive a nationally recognised certificate valid for 3 years. The course is approved by the Pre-School Learning Alliance, Ofsted, National Childminding Association and Notts EYDCP. Applicants who have lived abroad

Any evidence you produce from countries other than Great Britain must also be from a verifiable source and if necessary translated into English by an accredited translation agency, embassy or high commission.

However, due to the time it can take to verify the evidence you may wish to consider attending an acceptable induction and /or first aid course in England.
